Lady Bearcats bow out

The Associated Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Yolanda Reed scored five points during a 9-0 run to jump-start the second half as Memphis beat Cincinnati in their Conference USA semifinal matchup 72-64 Sunday.

Cincinnati led 30-25 at halftime, but Reed hit a three-pointer 12 seconds into the half to start the spurt.

Despite the loss, UC coach Laurie Pirtle was happy with her team's tournament run and is hoping for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

''I am proud of the three-day effort we gave,'' Pirtle she said. ''Our seniors and our sub-seniors played well. Our chances (of making the NCAA tournament) are with the NCAA committee. We proved that we are in the top teams of Conference USA this season.''

Stephanie Geter scored 17 and Doris Scott had 16 for Cincinnati (21-8).
