University of Cincinnati Athletic Director Bob Goin said Thursday he expects the school will get a decision soon about whether it will receive a letter of inquiry from the NCAA.
Goin said he hopes for a decision sometime in the next two weeks. UC filed the report of its internal investigation Oct. 16. The school concluded there were irregularities in the establishment of former guard Charles Williams' eligibility.
The NCAA can accept the university's findings and the adjustments made to policy to correct those situations or issue the official letter, a step that would force UC to go before the NCAA committee on infractions.
Magic man
Former NBA great Magic Johnson attended Thursday's C-USA tournament games. He sat at the press table through the UC-Louisville game and said he was scouting players for the management company he has started.
He looked at UNC Charlotte's DeMarco Johnson earlier in the day and had good things to say about UC's Ruben Patterson. He also got a look at national freshman of the year Larry Hughes of Saint Louis.
Johnson said in managing athletes, ''I want to represent these guys, but I want to teach them about basketball, teach them about life, and also get them into business, much like myself.''
Cutting the Cards
UC entered the game having never beaten Louisville three times in one season. In fact, the Bearcats had won three consecutive games in this series only three times, and once in the past 30 years.
That was when the Bearcats swept the Cards in the season series in 1984-85 and returned the following year to claim the first meeting.
