Northern Arizona 21-7

  • How they got here:Automatic bid; Big Sky Conference champion Regular season: Northern Arizona lost to its only top 25 opponent, No. 19 UCLA, 90-68 on December 18.

  • About the university: Located in Flagstaff, Ariz. Enrollment-17,000. Nickname-Lumberjacks. Colors-Blue and gold.

  • NCAA history: First trip.

  • Coach: Ben Howland

  • Key players: Five players average at least 9.4 points, led by forward Andrew Mavis (14.1), a 6-foot-6 senior from British Columbia. Center Casey Frank, a 6-9, 240-pounder, averages 10.6 points and 6.1 rebounds. Guard Kawika Akina, a native of Hawaii, averages a team-high 4.3 assists. Mavis is the top three-point threat.

  • Common opponent: Northern Arizona and Cincinnati had one common opponent this season in Arizona State. Both teams lost to the Sun Devils, the Lumberjacks falling 87-76 on Dec. 3 and the Bearcats losing 87-79 on Nov. 21.
