When he pulled down 15 rebounds in a game at the adidas Big Time tournament at Las Vegas, Bearcats recruit B.J. Grove appeared to be working on what he confessed to be a weakness earlier this month.
What was more impressive than the rebounding figure was that Grove, a 6-foot-11 center from George Jr. Republic School in Pennsylvania, outrebounded 6-8 Donnell Harvey of Cuthbert, Ga. Harvey is regarded by recruiting analysts as the top rebounder in the incoming senior class.
Harvey's first-half offensive outburst was the key to the victory by his Atlanta Celtics over Grove and the Pittsburgh JOTS, but Grove took over the defensive work in the second half and helped the JOTS recover to a four-point deficit.
Grove, who committed to UC in the spring, finished the adidas ABCD Camp with averages of 6.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in eight games.
He got just two points and two rebounds in the senior all-star game, a run-and-gun affair in which he and 7-0 center Josh Moore combined for only six of their team's 125 shots.
Grove will finish the July evaluation period by competing in the adidas Summer Shootout in Columbus starting Tuesday.
