Nice job, UC; now play UAB

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Though a letdown might be understandable after Thursday night's clash against Xavier, the Cincinnati Bearcats can't afford to slip.

They resume action Saturday against Alabama-Birmingham (15-6), which leads Conference USA's National Division with a 6-2 record. UC is atop the American Division at 6-1.

The Blazers have won eight of their last 10 games, averaging 81.4 points per game and shooting .514 from the floor during this stretch. Last Sunday, in their most recent game, UAB outlasted North Carolina-Charlotte 78-71 after overcoming a 16-point first-half deficit.

UAB benefits from scoring balance, with four players averaging in double figures. Senior forward Fred Williams leads the team with 12.9 points per game, including 17.3 over the last 10 games. Other threats include guard Damon Cobb (12.4), forward Willie Mitchell (10.9) and guard Eric Holmes (10.2).
