UC player accused of sexual battery
University of Cincinnati basketball player Shawn Myrick was indicted Wednesday on a charge of sexual battery.
Mr. Myrick, 22, is accused of having sex in December with a woman who did not give her consent.
According to the indictment, a Hamilton County grand jury concluded Mr. Myrick knew the woman's ability to control her conduct was substantially impaired.
Prosecutors would not say how she was impaired but indicated she met Mr. Myrick at a party in the early morning hours of Dec. 14.
They say the party began at a club and continued later at the Vernon Manor Hotel, where several members of the basketball team were staying before a home game the following evening.
The woman, who is not being named, went to a girlfriend's apartment and later accompanied Mr. Myrick to his apartment in Clifton, prosecutors say.
They say Mr. Myrick denied having sex with the woman, but DNA test results were turned over to the grand jury. Prosecutors would not discuss the test results.
If convicted, Mr. Myrick could face up to five years in prison.
Mr. Myrick, a senior guard from Maysville, Ky., played two seasons with UC.
