Kenner injury not serious

But Bearcats' QB won't play on Saturday

University of Cincinnati quarterback Deontey Kenner did not suffer a serious head injury Saturday when he was slammed to the ground in the Bearcats' loss to East Carolina, tests showed Sunday.

Tests — including a CT scan and an MRI — were negative and the quarterback does not have a concussion, UC Sports Information Director Tom Hathaway said.

Kenner returned to Cincinnati Sunday evening from Greenville, N.C., where he was held in a hospital overnight.

Kenner was taken off the field on a stretcher midway through the third quarter of Saturday's 48-34 loss after being hit by East Carolina's Chris Howell and complaining of pain in the back of his skull.

Kenner broke his right thumb earlier in the game.

Team doctors will make a decision today on whether Kenner will need surgery, but he will not play in this week's season finale against Memphis.
