Carolina's Haywood big, but not dominant
7-foot Tar Heel part of large lineup facing UC

CHICAGO UC's Kenyon Martin knows how big Brendan Haywood is. They played together as the starting big men for the U.S. team in the World University Games.
Martin got to know exactly what a 7-foot, 280-pound center looks like and also learned about how Haywood plays which might help No. 1 UC against the No. 7 Tar Heels at 9 tonight.
He had me playing next to him, Martin said. I think that took a lot of the pressure off him.
Haywood has only occasional help at power forward now, with 6-10 Kris Lang bothered by shin splints and playing part time. His replacement is 6-8 Jason Capel, a shooting guard last season.
I think that's hurting him, Martin said of Haywood.
Haywood averages 11.2 points despite shooting 75 percent from the field. He has fewer rebounds than shooting guard Joseph Forte. UC noticed how Michigan State center A.J. Granger, not known as a physical player, backed down Haywood on one possession.
It's not often UC plays a bigger team, but with Lang and Haywood, Carolina would pres ent a larger lineup than Temple did in eliminating UC from last year's NCAA Tournament.
Coach Bob Huggins and Martin say Temple's inside game did not bother the Bearcats as much as the matchup zone defense.
Haywood presents a matchup problem for everybody, Huggins said. We're going to concentrate on what we do, and hopefully we'll do our thing better than they do theirs.
