Wisconsin will be waiting for UC

The big date on the University of Cincinnati's 2000 football calendar is Sept. 16, when the Bearcats visit their old pals from Wisconsin.

  HOME GAMES IN CAPS

UC upset the then-No. 9 Badgers 17-12 at UC in September, killing any national title hopes Wisconsin had. And when Conference USA released its composite 2000 schedule Thursday, the UC-Wisconsin rematch jumped off the page.

UC coach Rick Minter is in Dallas at a national head coaches' convention and could not be reached Thursday. But UC recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Filkovski said the Bearcats know how hostile it will be at Camp Randall Stadium next year.

“You beat the Big Ten champs and then have to go up there, it'll certainly be a revenge factor for them,” Filkovski said.

UC has other challenges, starting with its own league. The Bearcats finished only 3-8 despite beating Wisconsin and were 0-6 in C-USA. They could start fast when Army, also 3-8, visits for the opener Sept. 2 at Nippert Stadium.

UC has four 1999 bowl teams (Wisconsin, Syracuse, Louisville and Southern Mississippi) on the schedule, plus a trip to Indiana and the annual rivalry game with Miami University.

“It's a very challenging schedule,” Filkovski said. “We've added some depth with our signing class, so hopefully that will help.”
