Harper, we hardly knew 'ya

BY MIKE DeCOURCY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

When the McDonald's All-America team is announced Monday, UC signee Jerome Harper will be on it. It's unlikely he'll end up wearing a Bearcats uniform, though.

A 6-foot-5 guard from Keenan High in Columbia, S.C., Harper is expected to use the McDonald's game — to be played April 2 in Boston — as an audition for the NBA draft, the way Jonathan Bender of Mississippi did in 1999. Bender became the No.5 overall pick after breaking the game's scoring record.

Harper is involved in the South Carolina state playoffs; Keenan, which is 26-2 and advanced into the second round with a 21-point victory on Friday. Harper scored 15 points.

Harper signed a letter of intent with UC in the fall, making him the third McDonald's All-American signee for UC in the past two seasons.
