BY MIKE DeCOURCY
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Junior college forward Jamaal Davis committed Monday to attend UC next year.
Davis, a 6-foot-9 sophomore at Barton County Community College in Kansas, also considered Florida, Rutgers, LSU and Fresno State. Davis joins guard Field Williams of Houston, power forward Rod Flowers of Huntsville, Ala., and small forward Antwan Jones of Tallahassee C.C. in UC's recruiting class.
Davis averages 18 points and 10 rebounds for Barton County, which entered Monday night's regional semifinal game with a 32-1 record. He was first-team all-conference and runner-up for his league's play er of the year award.
Coach Bob Huggins and assistant Mick Cronin were in the audience Sunday at Salina, Kan., when Barton County beat Coffeyville C.C. in the NJCAA Region VI playoffs, 101-53. Davis scored the game's first seven points.
Jamaal's had a really good year, said Barton County coach Ryan Wolf. He plays on a good team; he could average 25 or 26 points somewhere else.
Davis played 12 games for Purdue last season after sitting out 1997-98 to establish his eligibility.
He practices hard every day, goes to class, takes care of business, Wolf said. He's a really good kid.
