Satterfield, U.S. men win

RIBEIRAO PRETO, Brazil UC's Kenny Satterfield had 11 points and the United States pulled away to a 105-81 victory over Panama Thursday in the opening round of the World Championship for Young Men qualifying tournament.
Jason Williams of Duke led the United States with 21 points, while Kansas' Drew Gooden had 17 and Jason Richardson of Michigan State added 15. Michael Dunleavy of Duke had 11.
The United States, which beat Uruguay 122-73 in its opener, closes opening-round play today against Argentina, which is also 2-0. Regardless of the outcome both teams advance to Saturday night's semifinals. The championship game is Sunday night and the top three teams advance to the 2001 FIBA World Championship for Young Men.
The U.S. team closed the first half with a 15-7 run to go ahead 49-40. The lead was 71-58 when Gooden scored seven straight points to spark a 10-2 run. Panama (0-2) got within 81-71 with 6:57 left but Gooden scored eight points in a 10-3 run that sealed it.
Nick Collison of Kansas had 10 rebounds as the U.S. team finished with a 39-38 advantage on the boards.
Jaime Ferron had 25 points for Panama.
