'Cats ready to 'shock' people
New faces have new goals
By Michael Perry
The Cincinnati Enquirer
It's going to be an interesting basketball season for the University of Cincinnati.
Some Bearcats players think there are questions about how good UC can be after losing four starters, including three to the NBA.
On the other hand, Cincinnati is ranked 17th in the country and picked to win the Conference USA title.
I still think everybody's doubting us, sophomore center Donald Little said. They think we're softening up. When they see us play on TV as the season goes on, they'll see.
The Bearcats will rely heavily on their backcourt junior Steve Logan and sophomore Kenny Satterfield to lead the way in 2000-01. They will be more of an up-tempo team; UC averaged 124 points in two exhibition games.
We've got four or five guards that can really play this game, and they understand what's going on, Logan said. We're ready to go and just shock people. We want to show them that we're a contender.
UC will need help from its big guys at some point. That means Little and fellow sophomore B.J. Grove.
Some games we're going to have to have some inside scoring to open things up, Satterfield said. In the past, our big guys dominated. They've got to do something to contribute to the team.
Said Grove: A lot of guys are going to underestimate us because we're young. Then again, they're going to have to respect us when it's time to play.
