ORLANDO, Fla. University of Cincinnati quarterback Deontey Kenner was center stage but didn't grab the spotlight with his performance in Saturday's Rotary Gridiron Classic.
Playing most of the all-star game, Kenner was 13-of-28 for 140 yards, threw two interceptions, and failed to lead Team USA to any points in a 10-0 loss to Team Florida.
Kenner moved Team USA to Florida's 6 in the third quarter, but Chris Edmonds of West Virginia made a one-handed interception on a third-and-goal play.
I kind of knew he was going to throw it to me, Edmonds said. I'm the kind of guy that if the ball hits my hand, I'm going to catch it. He threw it to me two times before, and I knocked them down. I was like, three times must be the charm.
Penn State's Rashard Casey threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Florida State's Ryan Sprague for the game's only TD.
Casey, the game's offensive and overall MVP, connected with Sprague with 6:17 remaining in the third quarter. Casey was 6-of-15 for 66 yards and rushed for 41 yards on seven carries.
Edmonds, who also had a pass breakup, was the defensive MVP. Kentucky's Derek Homer ran 10 times for 25 yards.
