Bearcats break into AP poll at 25

By Michael Perry
The Cincinnati Enquirer

        The University of Cincinnati returned to the Associated Press top 25 on Monday, entering the poll at No. 25.

        The Bearcats dropped out of the AP top 25 last January and did not get back in for the rest of the season. This was only the second time in 10 years UC did not begin the season ranked.

        UC is also No.25 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll.

        A TRYOUT: Exempt tournaments, including the Las Vegas Classic, are experimenting with three rules:

        • The lane will be 16 feet wide (NBA width) instead of 12;

        • All tie-ups will be decided by a jump ball rather than the possession arrow;

        • All fouls by the offensive team will result in the defensive team getting ball. There will be no shooting offensive fouls.

        LOGAN HONORED: Senior guard Steve Logan was named Conference USA Player of the Week for the period ending this past Sunday.

        In victories over Toledo and Xavier, Logan averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 assists. He is eight 3-pointers shy of becoming the fifth player in league history to collect 300 career 3s.

        UP NEXT: Cincinnati leaves today for Las Vegas, where it continues play in the Las Vegas Classic with Louisiana-Monroe (Thursday), undefeated Mississippi State (Friday) and a yet-to-be-determined opponent Saturday.
