UC's Williams revels in homecoming

HOUSTON — Field Williams has been thinking about today's game all week. Not only does UC play Houston in Williams' hometown, but his mother, Fannie Anderson, will see him play in person for the first time ever.
“She's not really into sports,” the sophomore guard said. “She just wanted me to get good grades and get a degree.”
Williams was a first-team all-state pick as a senior at Houston's Waltrip High School, averaging 26.7 points and shooting 62 percent from 3-point range.
He is averaging 5.8 points and 13.2 minutes off the bench for UC.
Though recruited by Houston, Williams said he wanted to leave Texas to avoid the hometown pressure and bad influences from his neighborhood. Still, he is excited about today.
“It's going to be like I'm in high school again,” he said. “All my fans are going to be there, and I'm just going to try to go out and play hard.”
• Reserve guard Taron Barker will not play today. The 6-foot-1 junior did not travel with UC to Houston on Friday because of a death in his family.
