        Despite having his lowest scoring output of the season in the Conference USA Tournament semifinals, University of Cincinnati senior Steve Logan was named the most valuable player of the tourney after the Bearcats won the championship Saturday.

        Logan scored 26 points in UC's 77-63 victory over Marquette in the final. He had 15 points in 23 minutes in a quarterfinal victory over South Florida, then had just seven against Charlotte on Friday night.

        He finished 8-of-19 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3-point range and 8-of-8 from the foul line against the Golden Eagles. Logan was 3-of-22 from 3-point range in his previous four games.

        “He wills himself and wills the rest of us into winning games,” coach Bob Huggins said.

        Logan was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Immanuel McElroy, Marquette's Cordell Henry, Louisville's Reece Gaines and Houston's Marcus Oliver.

        McElroy averaged 9.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists but probably made the team for his defensive efforts against South Florida's Altron Jackson, Charlotte's Jobey Thomas and Marquette's Dwyane Wade.

        LOGAN'S RUN: Logan's 727 points are the fourth-most in one season for a Bearcat. Oscar Robertson has the top three totals (1,011, 984, 978).

        RIVALS: Saturday's game might be the end of a longtime rivalry between Logan and Henry, who have known each other since playing AAU basketball in the summers when they were in high school. Henry was in Chicago and Logan in Cleveland.

        The two were jawing at each other all day Saturday. All in good fun.

        “We always talk out there,” Logan said. “It's nothing personal or anything like that. He said they weren't getting the calls.”

        SPEAKING OF CALLS ... UC attempted 90 free throws (and made 63) in its three tournament games; its opponents attempted 47 (and made 31). The Bearcats were called for 48 fouls, their opponents 68.
