Huggins lunches with Nuggets GM

By Michael Perry mperry@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

CHICAGO — University of Cincinnati coach Bob Huggins and Denver Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe had lunch together Wednesday at a downtown hotel, but both said it was informal and introductory.

There have been reports the Nuggets would talk to Huggins about their vacant head coach's position.

“I didn't really know him well,” Vandeweghe said. “I've been an admirer of his for a long time. ... It was just an informal lunch.”

Said Huggins: “There's nothing to say. It wasn't anything. We just had lunch. Good sandwich. ... I didn't really know him either.”

Vandeweghe would not speculate as to whether he would eventually interview Huggins formally.

Huggins was in Chicago to see Steve Logan and McElroy participate in the pre-draft camp.
