Guidugli likely to start for UC

It appears Gino Guidugli will be at quarterback when Cincinnati plays Saturday at Southern Mississippi, but UC coach Rick Minter hasn't made it official.
We're ready to go with (backup) George (Murray) if Gino can't go, but Gino's been throwing every day, so it's not like he hasn't been doing anything, Minter said Wednesday.
He's totally in tune with the plan; he's executed the throws. We're just not going to put him in full gear and have him run around a lot. It's (still) kind of a wait-and-see thing.
Toward the end of Saturday's loss at Tulane, Guidugli took a hard shot - helmet-on-bone, just below his left knee - and had to be helped off the field.
There's no structural damage, Minter said. It's a bone bruise, and that's like a hip pointer. You can play with a hip pointer the minute the pain allows you to play. The same with a knee joint; it's a matter of getting some of the stiffness and soreness out.
Murray has played six games at wide receiver, and using him at quarterback would give the Bearcats' offense a more varied look. That might be a nice wrinkle for UC to have.
Hindsight would say you ought to always play George a few plays every game just to change the tempo, because you can do a few different things with him, Minter said.
Minter isn't ruling out such a possibility Saturday, even if Guidugli were to start.
It's just a little early to speculate on that, Minter said.
