MILWAUKEE - Kelly Schwerman scored 18 points to lead Marquette to a 62-54 victory Friday night as Cincinnati couldn't recover from a poor-shooting first half.
Cincinnati (9-6, 0-1 Conference USA) made only 8 of 29 field goal tries in the first half for 27.6 percent, as the Golden Eagles built a 31-22 halftime lead.
Marquette (11-3, 1-0) also got 11 points from Carolyn Kieger and 10 points and 8 rebounds from Crystal Weaver.
Debbie Merrill had 26 points, including 10 of 14 field goal tries, and Brittani Young added 10 points for Cincinnati. Merrill also had 8 rebounds.
