Bowl offer OK with NCAA

The Cincinnati Enquirer

The NCAA approves of Bob Goin's goodwill gesture toward obtaining a bowl bid for the University of Cincinnati football team.

Goin, the UC athletic director, has said that if the Sports Humanitarian Bowl (Boise, Idaho) selects the Bearcats for its Dec. 29 game, he would be willing to play a home-and-home series in men's basketball with Boise State University. STORY

''That's an institution's prerogative, to schedule a home-and-home basketball series,'' said Bob Oliver, NCAA director of membership services. ''A bowl bid and a basketball series are apples and oranges.''

Another bowl for which UC holds hope, the Ford Motor City Bowl, rescinded its offer to Michigan State.
