Personal finance writer and columnist Amy Higgins has a bachelor of science degree in journalism, with a history concentration, from Northwestern University; and a master of arts degree in journalism, with a business concentration, from New York University.

Before starting at the Enquirer in 1998, she wrote freelance business articles in New York City. A native of Indianapolis, she also worked as a reporter for the Lafayette, Ind., Journal and Courier.

"Having majored in journalism, I'm clearly no money genius. But I rely on excellent sources and a talent for translation to provide simple, useful information on money — how to save it, spend it and invest it. Afterall, while money can't make you happy, it can give you the freedom to figure out what does."
