The students speak:
Their view on suspensions
"A lot of lot of these kids do deserve to get suspended. But sometimes I feel
they do suspend you without thinking about it. That seems to be more with African-Americans."
Michile Ford, 16, Western Hills University High School in Cincinnati Public
Schools
"I saw the numbers (for Holmes High School) and they didn't show disparities
at all. I see the behavior every day, and I see equal numbers of black and
white students getting in trouble for the same things."
Liz Fossett, 17, Holmes High School in Covington Independent Schools
"Most people have prejudices. We have all white teachers and one black teacher.
They need to have all cultures represented."
Ashley Bonner, 15, Deer Park Junior/Senior High School in Deer Park Community
Schools
'School staff skips right to suspension out-of-school with black students.
With white students, they get in-school suspension or Friday night school.
I think they don't know they're doing it.'
Nathan Mountain, 14, freshman Western Hills University High School
