Farms offer chance
to cut own Christmas tree

Following is a list of places where you can cut your own Christmas tree. Some farms also offer live trees that can be planted after Christmas.

OHIO

  • A.J. Nieman Nursery, 3881 Cincinnati-Brookville Road, Ross. U.S. 27 north to Ross exit, left on Ohio 128 to second traffic light, turn right on Ohio 126 (at Venice Antique Mall) for two miles. Nursery is on left.

    Large selection of Scotch pine, red pine, white pine up to 8 feet and Colorado blue spruce and Norway spruce up to 6 feet. Saws provided. Live balled and burlapped trees, including white pine, Concolor fir, Douglas fir, blue spruce, Norway spruce and Serbian spruce. Table centerpieces, decorated wreaths and white pine roping sold by the yard.

    Cost: $4 per foot for Scotch pine, red pine and Norway spruce; $5 per foot for white pine. Other trees individually priced.

  • BeiersdorferFarm, 6801 Longspurling Road, Pleasant Plain. From Interstate 275 take Ohio 28 east 10 miles. Turn left on Pleasant Plain-Edenton Road, then right on Longspurling Road. Follow signs.

    French blue Scotch pines, 4 feet-6 feet tall.

    Cost: All trees $25.

    Hours: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday - Sunday in December. 469-1900

  • Big Tree Plantation, 2544 S. Waynesville Road, Morrow. Interstate 71 to Exit 32 (Morrow), east 1 mile to Waynesville Road, south .6 miles. Big Tree on left.

    Scotch and white pines; Noble, Fraser, Douglas and Canaan firs. Nativity scene, free hot chocolate, tree bag and horse-drawn wagon rides. Refreshments weekends. Wreaths and garland gift shop.

    Cost: $25 and up.

  • Christmas TREE-ditions, 1499 Ireland Road, Wilmington. Take Interstate 71 north to Wilmington exit (Ohio 68, south) and go through Wilmington. Turn left on Ohio 134 (at Stacy's Restaurant) for two miles. Turn right on Ireland Road for 1ï miles. Farm on left.

    More than 8,000 Austrian white pine, Colorado blue and fir trees. Free horse-drawn hay rides. Hot cider. Wreaths and roping available.

    Cost: $35-$55.

  • Corsi Tree Farm, 1651 Bolender Road, Hamersville. Go east on Ohio 125 4.5 miles east of Bethel. Turn left on Liming-Van Thompson Road for 1.5 miles. Turn right on Bolender Road, farm immediately on left.

    Thousands of Colorado blue and Norway spruce;, Scotch, white and red pines on 100 acres. Up to 9 feet. Smaller balled and burlapped trees available (2 1/2 - 4 feet). Saws provided. Santa will fly over farm in helicopter Dec. 7-8 and 14-15.

    Cost: Cut-your-own trees $22. Balled and burlapped trees $8-$18.

  • Dirr Nurseries, 6066 Goshen Road, Clermont County. From Milford exit of Interstate 275, take Ohio 28 east 6 miles to Goshen, turn right (south) on Goshen Road for 4 miles to nursery.

    Thousands of white pines up to 8 feet. Balled and burlapped trees available. Saws available.

    Cost: $25.

    Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and 9 a.m.-noon Christmas Eve. 625-2000.

  • Halen Tree Farm, 1321 Goos Road, Hamilton. Interstate 275 to Colerain Avenue exit (Ohio 27). Go north 5 1/2 miles. Turn right on Ohio 128 exit for two miles. Turn left on Smith Road for 3 1/2 miles. Turn left on Goos Road 1/2;-mile to farm. Follow signs. 863-8982.

    Forty-five acres of sheared pine and spruce to 10 feet, Norway and spruce to 12 feet. Baling and tree shaker available. Provide own saw if possible.

    Cost: Any size Scotch pine, $25. Others individually priced.

  • Hood's Nursery, 1781 Ohio 380, Wilmington.

    Mainly Douglas fir trees 10-20 feet; few trees 5-9 feet. Norway spruce 5-9 feet.

    Cost: Douglas firs, $5-$7.50 per foot; Norway spruce, $5-$8 per foot.

  • John T. Nieman Nursery, 3215 New London Road, Hamilton. Take U.S. 27 north to Ross-Hamilton exit. Turn left on Ohio 128 for one block. At first light, turn right on School Road, then right on Layhigh Road to intersection of New London Road. Turn left on New London.

    Large selection of white pine and blue spruce up to 9 feet. Balled and burlapped blue and Norway spruce and white pine, 3-7 feet. Wreaths, swags and arrangements made daily. Pine roping, Christmas decorations.

    Cost: Cut-your-own trees priced individually. Balled and burlapped trees $35 and up.

    Hours: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. for live trees, 10 a.m.-dark for cut-your-own, daily through Dec. 22. 738-1012.

  • Kern Nursery Landscaping Inc., 6099 Millikin Road, Liberty Township. Take Ohio 747 north from Interstate 275 for 7 miles. Turn right on Millikin Road for 1ï miles.

    Thousands of Scotch pines, 6-12 feet. Balled and burlapped white pines 5-8 feet; Norway spruce 4-7 feet. Handmade wreaths, roping, table decorations, door swags and mixed greens. Afternoon wagon rides Dec. 7- 8.

    Cost: Cut your own $27. Balled and burlapped, white pine $60-$100, Norway spruce, $50-$100.

  • Miller's Christmas Trees, 1600 Eckmansville Road, West Union. Take Interstate 275 to Ohio 32 east. From Ohio 32, take Winchester exit (Ohio 136) for about 7 miles. Turn right onOhio 125, then right to Eckmansville Road for 1-1 1/2; miles. Look for signs.

  • More than 2,000 Scotch pines up to 10 feet. Also white pine, Colorado blue spruce and Douglas fir. Balled and burlapped white pines and Colorado blue spruce. Wreaths made daily; roping and tree disposal bags. Saws provided. Free hot beverages and cookies.

    Cost: Cut your own $3-$4 per foot; balled and burlapped $25 and up.

  • Pinefield Farm, 2166 U.S. 50, Fayetteville. Three miles west of Fayetteville and 15 miles east of Milford.

    Scotch pines to 8 feet.

    Cost: $15-$40.

    Hours: 8 a.m.-dark Saturday; noon-dark Sunday, 3 p.m.-dark, Monday-Friday beginning Dec. 2. 875- 3204.

  • Spring Grove Farms, 2088 Bethel New Richmond Road, New Richmond. Take Ohio 125 east. Turn right on Ohio 222 and right on Bethel New Richmond Road, or take U.S. 52 east and turn left at third traffic light in New Richmond.

    Scotch pine and balled and burlapped trees.

    Cost: Cut your own Scotch pines $25. Live burlapped trees $35-$45.

  • Steele's Evergreen Farm, 5877 Oxford-Milford Road, Somerville. Take U.S. 27 to Oxford. Turn right on Ohio 73, 1 mile out of Oxford, then left on Oxford-Milford Road for 2 miles to the farm. Follow signs.

    Scotch pines 6-9 feet. Also, white pine, Fraser fir, Douglas fir, blue spruce. Decorated wreaths and roping. Christmas shop.

    Cost: $15 and up.

  • Sterwerf's Tree Farm, 11820 Edgewood Road, Harrison. Take Interstate 74 west to New Haven Road (exit 1). Turn right on New Haven Road for 2 miles. Turn left on Edgewood Road for 2 1/2 miles. House on right.

    Scotch pines to 12 feet. Saws provided.

    Cost: $3.50 per foot, $17.50 minimum, $28 maximum.

  • Sugar Tree Farms, Pondlick and Richardson roads, Seaman. Take Ohio 32 east to Winchester. Turn left on Ohio 136 and go 8 miles to Pondlick Road. Turn right for1.8 miles to farm. Follow signs.

    Scotch pines up to 10 feet; some 5-6 feet. Blue spruce and Douglas firs. Handmade wreaths. Hiking trails.

    Cost: $25.

    INDIANA

  • Berninger Family Christmas Tree Farm, Dillsboro. Take U.S. 50 west to Dillsboro exit, then right on Station Hollow Road. Follow signs.

    Several thousand Scotch and white pines 6-12 feet; many 8 feet. Saws provided.

    Cost: All trees $19.95.

    Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday

  • Martini Nursery Christmas Tree Farm, 5907 Yorkridge Road, Guilford. From Lawrenceburg exit off Interstate 275, go straight through the traffic light and turn right at the stop sign. Take Ind. 1 north for 4 miles. Turn left on Yorkridge Road for 2 miles. Nursery on left.

    Wide variety of Scotch pines. Also, dug and burlapped white pines.

    Cost: $20; dug and burlapped, $22-$49.

  • Townsend Family Christmas Tree Farm, 8728 Moody Road, Moores Hill. Take Interstate 275 to Lawrenceburg exit. Turn left on U.S. 50 to Aurora. Turn right on Ind. 350 for about 6 miles. Turn right on Mount Sinai Road, then right on Chatham Road. Follow signs to end of road.

    More than 3,000 shaped French blue and Scotch pines, 4-14 feet. Saws provided. Christmas shop open weekends.

    Cost: $3.75 per foot.

    KENTUCKY

  • Bezold Pines, Campbell County. Take U.S. 27 south to left on Ky. 154 for 4 miles. Follow signs.

    White and Scotch pine hand pruned trees. Also, balled Norway spruce 3-6 feet.

    Cost: Cut-your-own $4.50 per foot (5-foot minimum). Balled Norway spruce $40 and up.

  • Evergreen Junction Tree Farm, Alexandria. From U.S. 27 and Ky. 10 in Alexandria, go south on U.S. 27 for 4.3 miles. Turn left on Craft Road for 1ï miles to stop sign. Turn left for .6 miles to farm.

    Scotch and white pine. Also, wreaths and stands. Free candy canes and cookies for kids.

    Cost: $20, up to 8 feet.

    Hours: 8 a.m.-dark, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 29-Dec. 24. Other days by appointment. 635-9941.

  • Ferguson Tree Farm, 10515 U.S. 42, Union. About 15 miles south of Cincinnati. Take Interstate 75 south to exit 178 (Ky. 536/Mount Zion Road). Turn right off the exit and go west on Ky. 536 about 2 miles to stop light. Turn left on U.S. 42. Farm is 1 mile on right, just past Ryle High School and Gray Middle School.

    More than 300 trees, five varieties 6-8 feet. Saws provided. Wreaths, restrooms, hayrides on weekends. Refreshments available.

    Cost: Scotch and white pines $4 per foot, Douglas fir and Norway spruce $5 per foot, Blue spruce $6 per foot. Add $5 if you dig, $20 if Ferguson digs and burlaps.

  • Glencairn Farm, 2150 Hathaway Road, Union. Behind the firehouse on U.S. 42 in Union.

    About 300 Scotch and white pines 6-10 feet. Free balling.

  • Hilltop Pines, 3 miles east of Alexandria. Take Ky. 8 into Silver Grove and turn right at light on Ky. 547 south. Turn left on Ky. 1997. Farm is on the left. Or take AA Highway exit 77 east 8 miles to Ky. 547. Turn right on 547 for 1 mile. Turn right on Ky. 1997. Follows signs 1 mile to farm.

    Sheared Scotch and Austrian pines and Norway spruce. Roping by the foot or bundle. Saws provided. Also, balled and burlapped white pine and Norway and blue spruce.

    Cost: Cut your own $20. Balled and burlapped trees $30 and up.

  • Hilltop Tree Farm, 984 Northbend Road, Hebron. From Interstate 275, take Northbend Road (Ky. 237) exit. Go north for 3 miles.

    Scotch and Austrian pines to 12 feet. Wreaths, roping on order. Ride wagons to and from field.

    Cost: $25 for trees under 8 feet, $30 for trees 8 feet and over.

  • Meinhardt's Burlington Tree Farm, 8289 Kelly Road (23 miles from Cincinnati). Take Interstate 75 to Ky. 18-Florence exit. Go west 4 miles to Burlington stop sign and turn left on Ky. 338 (East Bend). Go 6 miles to Kelly Road. Watch for signs.

    More than 300 Scotch pines 6-10 feet. Saws provided. Handmade wreaths, swags and bouquets made of farm-grown materials. Free hot chocolate.

    Cost: $20-$35.

  • Walters Christmas Tree Farm, 2346 Longbranch Road, Union. Take Interstate 75 south to Florence/Union (U.S. 42) exit. Go west on U.S. 42 for about 3 miles (where four-lanes end). Turn right on Longbranch Road for 1 mile.

    White, Virginia and Scotch pines 5-15 feet. Hot chocolate and cookies.

    Cost: $20 and up.
