INDUSTRY NOTES: MANUFACTURING
Ransohoff lands
Ford contract

BY MIKE BOYER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

CAE Ransohoff in Butler County has won a multimillion-dollar contract from Ford Motor Co. to provide metal cleaning equipment for the company's new ''FN'' front-wheel-drive transmission.

Last fall, Ford said it would invest $220 million to build the new small-car transmission at its Sharonville and Sterling Heights, Mich., transmission plants.

Ford is investing $90 million in the Sharonville plant for a production line that will build gears and carriers for the new transmission. The project, to be completed by the end of the decade, is expected to create 160 jobs at the Sharonville plant.

CAE Ransohoff will build and install 19 satellite cleaning systems in the plants.

CAE Ransohoff, a division of Toronto-based CAE Inc., said the central solution supply system that Ford will employ is expected to save the automaker $5 million in operating costs during the first 10 years of operation.
