The following is what Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters describes as a ''reign of terror'' by Joseph Paul Franklin between 1977 and 1980.
August 1977: Used a handgun to shoot and kill a white man and black woman in Madison, Wis. Confessed in 1984; received two life sentences in 1985.
October 1977: Killed a Jewish man and wounded two others in a sniper attack outside a Clayton, Mo., synagogue. At trial in February, asked jurors for death sentence; awaiting death by lethal injection.
March 1978: Shot and paralyzed Hustler magazine Publisher Larry Flynt in a sniper attack outside a Georgia courthouse. Confessed, indicted, but was never tried.
July 1978: Used a pump shotgun to kill a black man and wound a white woman in Chattanooga, Tenn. Confessed, was indicted but not tried.
August 1979: Used a rifle to kill a black man seated inside a Burger King restaurant in Falls Church, Va. Gave a videotaped confession March 10. Has not been charged.
October 1979: Killed a black man and white woman standing in a parking lot in a sniper attack in Oklahoma City. Confessed, but has not been indicted.
January 1980: Allegedly used a rifle to shoot through a window at a Church's Fried Chicken in Indianapolis, killing a black man inside. Indicted, but never tried.
February 1980: Allegedly shot and killed a black man in a sniper attack at an Indianapolis convenience store. Has been indicted, but not tried.
May 2, 1980: Picked up a white female hitchhiker and took her to a state park in Wisconsin, where he killed her. Admitted the crime in 1984.
May 29, 1980: Shot and wounded civil rights leader Vernon Jordan, then president of the National Urban League, in a hotel parking lot in Fort Wayne, Ind. Acquitted of civil rights violations in 1982, but a decade later, confessed to the crime. Has not been charged criminally.
June 8, 1980: Shot and killed two black youths as they walked along Reading Road in Bond Hill. Admitted the crime Sunday; was indicted Tuesday.
June 15, 1980: From a railroad overpass, used a rifle to shoot and kill a black man and white woman as they walked down a street in Johnstown, Pa. Confessed to a Hamilton County prosecutor Sunday. Has not been charged.
June 25, 1980: Killed two white women who were hitchhiking in West Virginia. Admitted the crime Sunday. Another man was convicted of the crime and is serving time in West Virginia.
August 1980: Killed two black men as they jogged with white women in Salt Lake City. Received two life sentences for murder in state court and two life sentences in federal court for civil rights violations.
