While Cincinnati Police Division officials agreed to interviews concerning these articles, The Enquirer was unable to interview 27 police officers, sergeants and lieutenants whose names and cases appear in the series.
The Enquirer attempted to contact the officers in several ways.
First, at the request of police division officials, the newspaper submitted to the public information office on June 6 a list of the officers and a request to interview them. Later, the newspaper was told by police officials to contact the officers individually.
On June 13, The Enquirer delivered to each police district and other specialized units letters asking the officers for interviews. A police official said all of the officers were notified of the letters.
When none of the officers responded to that request, The Enquirer asked the police division on June 18 to provide it with the home phone numbers and/or addresses of the officers. That request was denied.
