City, county feud over consultant

BY LUCY MAY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Hamilton County Commission President Bob Bedinghaus has a message for Cincinnati council members who want their own study of baseball stadium sites: Butt out.

Mr. Bedinghaus said the county doesn't want the city to use a consultant the governments jointly hired for further study.

"It would be a tragedy for someone - for partisan, political reasons - to take this excellent example of cooperation and twist it into a partisan effort to pit one good location for a ballpark against another good location for a ballpark," he said.

Todd Portune, a fan of Broadway Commons, and five other council members this week asked Urban Design Associates (UDA) to conduct a comparative analysis and feasibility study of Broadway Commons and Baseball on Main.

Mr. Portune said he didn't understand Mr. Bedinghaus' reaction. "What's he afraid of?" he said.

UDA was hired to study football and baseball sites, but the firm didn't recommend a specific baseball site.
