Selling space: The Fountain Place Lazarus will deploy 150,000 square feet for merchandising; the West Seventh Street store used almost 500,000 square feet of selling space. Though smaller in size, the new store's merchandise will be more efficiently displayed and its mix designed to serve downtown shoppers.
What shoppers won't find: Space-eating furniture and electronics departments or restaurants.
First floor: The 51,000-square-foot ground floor will be devoted to high-profit-margin women's cosmetics and accessories, along with intimates, jewelry, juniors apparel and women's shoes.
Second floor: Men's, children's clothes, plus-size women's apparel.
Third floor: Housewares and more women's apparel. The setup is designed to get women -Federated Department Stores' largest market segment - to travel the entire store. A mammography center will also be situated there.
