Raymond and Judith Crawford Tibbetts were newlyweds.
Just after their late-September wedding, he moved into her apartment in the Mohawk neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine, where she cared for her 67-year-old landlord.
But the honeymoon was short-lived. Mrs. Tibbetts, 42, and her landlord, Fred Hicks, were found stabbed to death Thursday in their home at 228 Mohawk St.
Cincinnati homicide detectives said Monday they have charged Mr. Tibbetts with murder in connection with his wife's death.
He is being held in the Kenton County Jail on a charge of receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing Mr. Hicks' white Chevrolet Geo Metro.
Mr. Tibbetts, 40, was taken into police custody Saturday night after he admitted himself into the emergency room at St. Elizabeth Medical CenterSouth in Edgewood, saying he was confused and having emotional problems, said Sgt. Tom Lanter of the homicide unit. Police plan to bring the case before a grand jury next week to determine what kind of homicide charge he will face, Sgt. Lanter said.
He declined to comment on a motive.
Mrs. Tibbetts had cared for her landlord, who suffered respiratory and hearing problems, for about six years, relatives said.
Relatives said the Tibbetts had dated for a long time in the 1980s before Mr. Tibbetts was convicted in 1988 on a theft charge in Campbell County. The charge was his third felony, earning him a 10-year prison sentence.
Mr. Tibbetts served two years of that sentence in the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty. He was released in 1990, but was sent back to prison twice on parole violations for a combined four years before being released in June 1995.
Relatives of Mrs. Tibbetts said the couple were having marital problems. They have a teen-age daughter.
