Moreland not a candidate

BY PATRICK CROWLEY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

COLD SPRING, Ky. - Jack Moreland, former Northern Kentucky University interim president, will not run for a Kentucky statehouse seat that serves much of Campbell County.

In a letter to Campbell County Democratic Party Chairman Terry Mann, Mr. Moreland said he may run for state or county office in the future but his new job working as a state higher education official in Gov. Paul Patton's administration is taking too much of his time and energy now.

Mr. Moreland left NKU in July after a year as interim president. He lives in Cold Spring, was the longtime superintendent of the Dayton Independent Schools and was considering running for the 68th House District seat being vacated next year by Fort Thomas Republican Katie Stine, who is running for the state Senate.

Democrats are likely to concentrate on recruiting Jim Daley, a Cold Spring lawyer, former Kentucky state trooper and head of the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Task Force, into the race.
