UC, HUC grants total $386,500

The University of Cincinnati and Hebrew Union College have been awarded grants totaling $386,500 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
The grants were announced Tuesday.
Hebrew Union won a $174,000 grant -- and will match another $85,000 -- to pay for publication of books on Semitic languages.
UC will receive $110,000 -- and will match another $17,500 -- to produce an interactive CD-ROM, a videotape, a Web site and teacher materials on the ancient cultures and architecture of the Ohio River Valley.
Researchers at other Tristate-area universities also received $4,000 stipends:
Xavier University, for a study of German philosopher Martin Heidegger.
University of Dayton, for a study of the first Russian Imperial census of 1897.
Ohio State University, for a study of U.S. policy toward the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Ohio University, for a study of "Women, Shakespeare and Marriage Law."
The grants were among 254 totaling $30.5 million awarded nationally by the NEH.
