A 12-year-old patient got out of his room Saturday, scrambled onto the roof of Children's Hospital Medical Center, and began throwing rocks.
The boy climbed onto the seventh-floor roof of the old section of the hospital, said Children's spokesman Jim Feuer.
He declined to name the boy. He also said he could not provide details of the boy's stay at Children's.
The incident began around 6:30 p.m. Officers from the Cincinnati Police Division and the University of Cincinnati Police Department responded. They closed streets surrounding the hospital until about 8 p.m., when a UC officer talked the boy into leaving the roof. Mr. Feuer said the boy never threatened to jump.
The boy's family was notified and was at the hospital when he left the roof.
The hospital still is investigating how the boy made it onto the roof. Mr. Feuer said no one can recall a patient ever going onto the roof before.
The boy was taken back to his room. No charges have been filed. Mr. Feuer said that other than the closed streets, hospital business was not affected.
"Nobody else was involved," he said. "I'd be surprised if patients here even knew what happened."
