Arrested Ohio U. students face discipline

Tuesday, April 14, 1998

ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University students arrested in a disturbance after bars closed early for daylight-saving time face university charges that could result in suspensions or expulsions, school officials said.

Twenty-two students arrested during the April 5 disturbance will be charged through the university's judicial system with "civil disturbance," Richard Carpinelli, director of the Office of Student Judiciaries, said in a statement Monday.

Police said about 2,000 people gathered downtown before bars closed at 2 a.m., a half-hour earlier than usual because of the change to daylight-saving time. They arrested 34 people, most of them for disorderly conduct.
