A record $17,100 was raised for the Michael W. Bany Memorial Scholarship Fund through the 1998 Cincinnati Enquirer Pop Music Awards.
The second annual Cammy Awards, held March 15 at Sycamore Gardens, drew a sold-out crowd of 1,500. Almost $10,000 more was raised for the scholarship than the 1997 Cammys' $7,256 total.
"We were overwhelmed," says Bany committee member Mickey Foellger. "The fact that the event has reached sell-out status creates a new set of challenges for next year that we're more than happy to deal with."
The Michael W. Bany Memorial Scholarship winner for 1998 will be announced May 8 at Jammin' on Main. It will be the third scholarship awarded since 1996. Named for the popular local musician slain in 1995 after a Main Street performance, the scholarship supports area music students through college.
The next Bany scholarship fund-raiser is a golf outing planned for late summer.
