A district-by-district look at crime in Cincinnati

Tuesday, April 21, 1998

Crime in Cincinnati's five police districts:

  • District 1 -- which spans downtown north to Over-the-Rhine, east to Mount Adams and west to Queensgate -- reported only minor changes from 1997 statistics with four homicides in the first three months of 1998, 18 rapes, 117 robberies, 83 aggravated assaults, 204 burglaries, 950 larcenies and 63 auto thefts.

  • District 2 -- which spans eastward from Walnut Hills over to Mount Washington -- jumped slightly in auto thefts, from 85 reported in the first three months of last year to 110 this year. In other areas, it remained about the same, with one homicide, five rapes, 49 robberies, 46 aggravated assaults, 201 burglaries and 603 larcenies.

  • District 3 -- the southwest part of the city from Lower Price Hill to Westwood -- changed little. It reported two homicides, 17 rapes, 74 robberies, 51 aggravated assaults, 310 burglaries, 745 larcenies and 111 auto thefts.

  • District 4 -- central Cincinnati from Avondale to Hartwell -- also showed only slight fluctuations. Its robberies dropped from 91 in the first quarter of last year to 66 this year. In other areas, it reported three homicides, 22 rapes, 67 aggravated assaults, 287 burglaries, 703 larcenies and 167 car thefts.

  • District 5 -- northwest from University Heights to College Hill -- stayed static as well, with no homicides, 14 rapes, 46 robberies, 50 aggravated assaults, 544 larcenies and 83 auto thefts.
