Friday, April 24, 1998

BY MIKE BOYER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Cincom Systems Inc., the Springdale software developer, said revenues for the first quarter ended March 31 increased 19 percent to $47 million from $39.5 million a year ago.

The increase was fueled by a 70 percent increase in new software licensing revenue to $14.2 million from $8.3 million a year ago. Privately held Cincom doesn't disclose earnings but said pretax profits in the first quarter increased more than $1.9 million from a year ago.

The company also said it has recently won nine new customers for its Acquire integrated selling software.

The new customers include the semiconductor equipment division of Air Products in Allentown, Pa.; Pellerin Milnor, a New Orleans-based supplier of commercial laundry equipment; Thyssen, a German manufacturer of elevators; Guptor, a Swiss electrical switch maker; Silcon, a Danish switch manufacturer; Pompes Salmson, a German water pump maker; Zellweger, a Swiss instrument manufacturer; Chief, a French furniture company; and NDS, a British developer of digital television broadcast systems.

Acquire captures and manages customer information, generates quotes and proposals and configures products for customer needs.

Chamber sponsoring sessions on exporting

The Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring two events in May for companies interested in expanding export sales.

The chamber will host a half-day seminar with managers of the Ohio Department of Development's eight international trade offices starting at 9 a.m. May 14 at the chamber's offices in Carew Tower. Managers of the trade offices in Brussels, Belgium, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, South Africa, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Tel Aviv, Israel, Tokyo and Toronto will discuss trade developments and opportunities in their regions.

The chamber also is hosting with Cincinnati Milacron a networking event for international business managers at 5:30 p.m. May 6 at Milacron's headquarters, 4701 Marburg Ave., Oakley.

Alan Shaffer, Milacron's group vice president for industrial products, will discuss the company's blueprint for international growth. For information on either or both events, call Karol Tuke at 579-3175.

Ghent Manufacturing hosts alliance group

Ghent Manufacturing Inc., the Lebanon-based manufacturer of message boards and other types of visual communications equipment, recently hosted the first meeting of the Millennium Group, an international alliance of visual communications manufacturers from six countries. The alliance members plan to act as a buying group, develop products and share information to grow internationally.

"The alliance members have a distinct advantage over other global suppliers," said Scott Bower, Ghent's marketing manager. "While offering global distribution, each company retains the ability to tailor products and services to their specific region." Besides Ghent, the other participating companies are Delta Products of Canada, Pintarron Alfra of Mexico, Planorga of France, Sahara Visual of the United Kingdom and Vista Visuals of Australia.
