A man who shot at a Dayton, Ohio, police officer and a civilian led police on a chase down Interstate 75 and into Cincinnati Saturday, crashing just short of the county jail.

The man, whom police would not identify late Saturday, was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Authorities say the incident began about 1:35 p.m. when two Dayton officers tried to serve a domestic violence warrant. They were met by a man who fired a shotgun, striking a female officer in the backside. The officer, whose name was not released, was not critically hurt, police said.

The suspect tried to commandeer a car, shooting out its back window. A bullet struck the driver in the back.

The motorist, whose name was not released, drove away and was treated at a hospital.

Meanwhile, the suspect carjacked another vehicle, leaving the woman driver unhurt. He went to his girlfriend's home and fired a shot into the home, but missed her and her child.

He then sped toward Cincinnati. Two Cincinnati officers joined the chase, said Cincinnati Police Capt. Mike Cotton.

The suspect crashed at Central Parkway and Sycamore about 3:30 p.m. Rescue workers said a shotgun was found inside the car.

The Associated Press contributed.
