This is the first of four daily stories documenting West Chester resident Joseph LaCombe's experience as an owner of a Kentucky Derby horse.
Joseph LaCombe's road to the Kentucky Derby took a detour through Georgetown, Ky., Tuesday to Twin Spires Farm.
But this morning he'll see the real Twin Spires, the grandstand steeples at Churchill Downs in Louisville.
His colt Favorite Trick, last year's horse of the year, is preparing for Saturday's race; he's preparing for the hoopla.
"The hardest thing is to have fun at what you're doing because it's a hectic pace," the West Chester man said from his car phone on the way to Louisville.
He had hoped to arrive at the track Tuesday afternoon, but was late.
"It's been a very confusing day," he said.
To reach all his destinations, LaCombe is making out agendas for each day. It's not work, though.
"This is a schedule that I make, and I'm doing what I want -- not necessarily what someone else wants me to do."
LaCombe and his wife, Irene, went to Twin Spires farm to see a 12-day-old foal he owns.
"What we're going to do," he said, "is our darndest to have a good time."
