Tall Stacks cruising back into town in 1999
Web site to offer information

Saturday, May 2, 1998

BY MARIE McCAIN
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Tall Stacks returns October 13-17, 1999, -- with information available on a slick new Web site, an information phone line, and a tickets-by-mail system that could deliver in time for Christmas.

Riverboats from more than a dozen river cities will dock at the Port of Cincinnati and be open for tours during the five-day festival celebrating America's Dixieland steamboat era.

The Web site and mail-order improvements were announced Friday aboard the Delta Queen -- one of the official flagships of Tall Stacks '99. They are designed to reduce the hassles of ticket purchases, said Tall Stacks Commission Chairman Len Weakley.

Sale dates and prices for cruises and tours on the historic boats will be announced later this year, and mail-order options should be in place by November. Overnight cruises on the Delta Queen and the Mississippi Queen during Tall Stacks '99 can be booked now by calling AAA Cincinnati at (513) 762-3390.

Meanwhile, there is plenty of information out there on the fourth Tall Stacks event, which debuted in 1988 for Cincinnati's Bicentennial:

  • The Web site address is http://www.tallstacks.com.

  • The information line is 421-TALL in Greater Cincinnati. Outside the area, the toll-free number is (877) 421-TALL.

  • The education-focused Web site contains detailed descriptions and information about the riverboat era and includes a photogallery of riverboats and additional information about upcoming events. It will be updated to include ticket information.
