Woman, teen daughter die in Boone Co. crash

Thursday, May 7, 1998

WALTON -- A mother and daughter died and another person was injured Wednesday night in a crash on Interstate 71 - 75 in Boone County. The victims were identified as Cathryn Gregory, 43, of St. Jude Circle in Florence and her daughter, Kristin, 13. Police said a northbound auto driven by the woman crossed the grass median and was broadsided on the passenger side by a southbound pickup.

The teen died instantly, police said. Her mother died at the scene. Both were wearing seat belts.

An Air Care helicopter carried the driver of the pickup, Connie White, 36, of Crittenden, to University Hospital. Her condition was unavailable early today.

"We have no idea why the vehicle that was going northbound crossed the median," police Sgt. James Dennison said.

"From all indications, the southbound car was in the center lane."

The 9:51 p.m. wreck, just north of the I-71 split near Walton, backed up traffic on the interstate for miles as crews worked to free the victims. Traffic did not begin moving again until after midnight.
