Witness tells police big rig to blame for I-71 - 75 deaths

WALTON -- A tractor-trailer may have cut off a motorist on Interstate 71 - 75, triggering a crash in which two people died.

Boone County police said Thursday they are investigating claims by a potential witness to the Wednesday night crash.

Kathryn "Katie" Marie Gregory, 43, and her daughter Kristin Marie Gregory, 13, both of St. Jude Circle in Florence, died in the 9:51 p.m. wreck.

According to the potential witness who called police Thursday afternoon, the northbound car driven by Mrs. Gregory went into the grass median to avoid a collision with a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer traveled from the center lane to the left, apparently forcing Mrs. Gregory's car in the left lane to drive into the median, the potential witness said.

From there, the witness said, the Gregory car wentinto the southbound lanes, where it struck a pickup driven by Connie White, 36, of Crittenden, Ky. Sgt. James Dennison did not identify the witness.

Mrs. Gregory was a dental assistant with Dr. Charles Horning in Florence, and a homemaker.

Kristin was an R.A. Jones Middle School student who was a student council officer, cheerleader, and speech and drama club member.
