LAWRENCEBURG -- After its record month in March, Argosy Casino's take dropped slightly in April.
Indiana Gaming Commission figures released this week show 216,876 people left $20.3 million at the Lawrenceburg-based riverboat. In March, that figure topped $20.4 million, the biggest haul since the riverboat opened in December 1996.
Things are still great, operators said.
"We are pleased to see continued positive economic impact," Argosy Casino and Hotel Manager Arnold Block said.
"The completion of our hotel later this month and the over 2,000 employees we have on payroll clearly demonstrates our commitment to not only meet but to exceed our promises to Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County and the state of Indiana," he said.
Nearby, 137,739 people gambled at Grand Victoria Casino and Resort in Rising Sun and lost $12.9 million at its electronic gaming devices, slots, and gaming tables.
As for taxes, Argosy paid a total of $5.6 million to the state and local authorities for April, while Grand Victoria paid $3.5 million, according to the commission.
