6 hurt in Boone County crash

Saturday, May 23, 1998

HEBRON -- A car that witnesses said ran a traffic light plowed into a minivan Friday in Boone County, injuring six people, two children critically.

The van was crossing North Bend Road (Ky. 237) from Limaburg Road onto Barbara Drive shortly after noon when a southbound car, driven by Herman Lawson, 66, of Hebron, failed to stop at a light, according to witnesses.

The van, driven by Holly Ford, 26, of Hebron, rolled over from the impact, fully or partially ejecting an adult and three children, police said. The van then struck a third car that rolled into a fourth.

In critical condition at Children's Hospital Medical Center were Savanna Baumgartner, 5, and Alycia Ford, 6. Autumn Ford, 1, was in fair condition Friday night at Children's. All three are from Hebron.

Ms. Ford and a passenger, Sheila Baumgartner, 35, of Hebron, were treated at St. Luke Hospital West and released.

None of the occupants of the van was wearing seat belts, police said, and Autumn Ford's child-safety seat was not properly attached. Mr. Lawson was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South. Drivers of the third and fourth vehicles declined treatment.

No citations have been issued.
