HAMILTON -- A 14-year-old Madison Junior School girl has admitted she made threats to kill two schoolmates, and those potential victims' mothers Tuesday told a Butler County judge their sons were afraid the girl would make good on her threats.
One of the teen victims "felt very threatened and scared," a mother told Juvenile Judge David J. Niehaus, asking that the judge take those feelings into consideration when he sentences the girl June 16.
The second teen's mother echoed similar sentiments, saying the boys want the girl to be kept away from them.
The girl, who has admitted guilt to a charge of aggravated menacing, is being held in the county Juvenile Detention Center. Her sentencing was postponed because she requested a lawyer Tuesday.
Sheriff's deputies earlier said the girl threatened to bring a gun to school to kill two schoolmates who were harassing her.
Judge Niehaus said it is possible the girl might have been joking, but she now needs to understand how seriously the situation is being taken.
In light of recent school violence locally and nationwide, "we're having to take a harder look at everything that happens," Judge Niehaus said.
Deputies arrested the girl May 15, a day after she allegedly made the threats. School officials suspended her for the remainder of this school year and said possible further action depends on the outcome of her court case.
