Boy charged with gun at school

Wednesday, June 3, 1998

HAMILTON -- A 12-year-old boy has been charged in an incident Friday in which he allegedly was caught with a handgun at school.

Hamilton Police Sgt. Dan Pratt said Tuesday the boy was charged with a delinquency count of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon on school premises. The charge would be a felony if the boy were an adult.

The boy was arrested Friday at Madison Elementary School at North and Buckeye streets in Hamilton after he allegedly brought a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun there. The gun was not loaded, police said, and the boy didn't use it to threaten anyone. The boy, who was released to his parents, will face action in Butler County Juvenile Court.
