Antibiotics distributed after meningitis scare

Sunday, June 7, 1998

The Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Health officials said they don't want to take any chances after what may have been the city's second bacterial meningitis death in a week.

The Columbus Health Department gave out antibiotics Saturday at a business where a 32-year-old woman who died Thursday had worked. Dr. Teresa Long, medical director of the health department and assistant health commissioner, said cultures to determine whether Lisa Sullivan had meningitis have not been completed. Last Sunday, Terel Tinsley, 20, a sophomore at Ohio State University, died of bacterial meningitis.
