Milford boil advisory in effect until Monday

Sunday, June 14, 1998

MILFORD -- The boil water advisory for Milford will remain in effect at least through Monday. About 5,000 customers are affected.

A new water main on Milford Parkway apparently broke Friday, said Chip Shilts, supervisor of the Milford water treatment plant. No customers lost service, but the break caused pressure to drop and prompted the advisory as a precaution, he said.

Under the advisory, customers are asked to boil their tap water for at least five minutes prior to use. Some residents experienced low water pressure and were asked to conserve water, but full pressure had been restored by Saturday evening, Mr. Shilts said.

The water main was part of a new system and had not been accepted by the city yet, Mr. Shilts said, so no customers lost their water service during the break. It appeared that a fitting in the new system had come off, which caused about 150,000 gallons of water to leak.
