Neuman's Melissa Beck, a freshman at Xavier University, will defend her Greater Cincinnati Amateur Invitational Championship this week at Kenwood Country Club.
Beck is exempt from qualifying Monday for the 83rd GCWA event. Other past champions in the field include Cincinnati's Louise Kepley (1994, '92, '91, '87), Clovernook's Linda Ball (1990), O'Bannon's Lynn Thompson (1981) and Blue Ash's Kerry Zebick Davis (1996, '95). Janie Dumler Klare (1995, '89) withdrew.
The Betty Forker Trophy will be awarded to the junior medalist participating in the championship. Julie Buechner, last year's inaugural Forker Trophy winner, is in the field.
The Brophy Trophy, dating to 1956, will be awarded to the low gross team from competing clubs.
Match play is Tuesday through Friday. In addition to the championship flight, there will be first, second, third, fourth and fifth flights.
Tee times: Monday -- 8 a.m. through 11 a.m.; Tuesday -- 8 a.m. through 2 p.m.; Wednesday -- 8:30 a.m. through 11 a.m.; Thursday -- 8:30 a.m. through 10 a.m.; Friday -- 8:30 a.m. through 9:30 a.m.
The championship match will begin at 9:30 a.m Friday.
