Loveland girl injured after Sunday crash

Monday, June 15, 1998

A 16-year-old Loveland girl is in serious condition after an early Sunday morning crash in which she apparently failed to yield at a stop sign, Cincinnati police said.

Nicole Rozzie, of Shadow Wood Drive, was turning left onto Sunset Avenue from Sunset Lane in Price Hill at 12:47 a.m. when she struck a vehicle driven by Robert Bucalo, 18, of Woodmere Court, Green Township. He was not injured.

Lawmaker seeks cost of making private plant

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A congressman wants the federal government to disclose the cost of transforming a southern Ohio uranium processing plant to private ownership.

The United States Enrichment Corp., which runs the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon, is switching from government control to a private company, possibly as soon as July.

U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, D-Lucasville, believes the move will cost the community jobs and be a bad deal for taxpayers. The Piketon plant employs 2,600 people and generates about $1.6 billion in revenues each year.

He also has expressed concern that the process is too secretive, The Columbus Dispatch reported Sunday.

Brothers to be tried together for '80 slaying

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Two brothers charged with killing a man 18 years ago will be tried together.

Anthony Cook, who is serving a life sentence for another murder, and his brother, Nathaniel Cook, each face three counts of murder in the shooting of Thomas Gordon. Their trial will be Nov. 9 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Mr. Gordon, 24, was killed in May 1980 as he sat in a parked car with his girlfriend.

The brothers were charged this year after police reopened the files on a number of unsolved cases.

His attackers broke out a car window with a brick and forced him and his girlfriend into the back seat. He was shot in the stomach. His girlfriend was raped and stabbed with an ice pick. She pretended she was dead and was dumped in an alley.
